What is a breast lift?
Over time, the skin and connective tissue of your breasts can stretch and lose elasticity. Your breast tissue itself may also soften and shift downward, which can cause your nipple and areola to sit lower than desired. These changes can leave you feeling self-conscious, especially when you wear a swimsuit.
A breast lift, also called a mastopexy, solves this problem by lifting and reshaping your breast to restore its previous position. We can also reposition your nipple and areola to produce a younger, firmer profile.
What should I expect?
Dr. Watkins usually performs a breast lift as an outpatient procedure that takes anywhere from 1.5-3.5 hours. Before the surgery, he has a detailed discussion with you about your desired results, including the size and shape of your breasts and the placement of your nipples. He also discusses incision options (we can modify the incisions if you have smaller breasts) and a plan for your recovery.
Dr. Watkins assesses your individual situation to determine if your goals might be better met by combining a breast lift with a breast augmentation for added size and firmness.
After surgery, you’ll wear an elastic bandage or surgical bra for a few days, followed by a soft support bra that you’ll wear 24 hours a day for a month as your breasts heal. Stitches will come out in 1-2 weeks, and many women return to work then.
